The upper is waterproof genuine nubuck leather, which means it handles rain and mud without complaint and gets better looking with age rather than worse. Inside, a 4-layer TOPAZ membrane keeps your feet dry and breathing at the same time — no sweaty, soggy socks after a long day out. The outsole is Vibram, which if you know hiking footwear, you'll know is about as good as it gets for grip on both soft ground and hard trail. The insole is anatomical, antibacterial, and washable, so comfort holds up over long distances and the boots stay fresh.

A reinforced toe cap adds durability where boots tend to take the most punishment, and the weight sits at 1.5 kg for a size 41 — solid without being heavy.

One important note on sizing: these boots run large. If you normally wear a UK 7 (EU 41) in Nike or Dr. Martens, go for EU 40 in the 553P. Size down by one and you'll get the right fit.
