The Colour That Started With a Bowl of Soup

In Lithuania, summer doesn't officially begin until someone puts a bowl of šaltibarščiai on the table. That cold, vivid pink beetroot soup — topped with a hard-boiled egg and a cloud of sour cream — is one of those things that's impossible to explain to someone who didn't grow up with it. You just know it when you see it.

When our Estonian factory in Tartu sent over the first leather samples for the 511, one shade stopped us immediately. It wasn't planned. Nobody briefed it. But there it was — that exact pink. The šaltibarščiai pink. The one that only makes sense in summer, on a warm Baltic evening, with the windows open.

We didn't name the boot after it. We didn't have to.
